Cameron Todd

Trumpet

Born in Hull into a farming family Cameron started to play the trumpet aged 9 and within three years was a member of the National Children’s Orchestra. He went on to Winchester College and subsequently to the Royal Academy of Music, graduating with both bachelor’s and master’s degrees. During his time there he was a member of the European Union Youth Orchestra and then the Verbier Festival Orchestra, performing under some of the world’s greatest conductors such as Bernard Haitink, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Herbert Blomstedt, Gustavo Dudamel and Valery Gergiev. A particular highlight was being given the opportunity to play the solo part to Shostakovich’sConcerto for Piano, Trumpet and Strings with Evgeny Kissin under the baton of Gianandrea Noseda in Switzerland in 2006.

In 2007 he became principal trumpet of the Orquestra Naçional do Porto, Portugal, returning to the UK in 2010. Since then, he has been working as a freelancer trumpeter, continuing to perform with many of the UK and Europe’s top orchestras, such as the RPO, LSO, Royal Opera House, Welsh National Opera, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Stavanger Symphony. Through music he has been fortunate enough to travel extensively, including to South America, Australia, China, Vietnam, Armenia, India and the Middle East, as well as throughout Europe. In 2014 he duetted with Lesley Garrett in performances of Bach’s Jauchzet Gott in allen Landen, Cantata 51 with the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra. 

Cameron joined the music department at Trinity School in 2016, becoming Head of Brass in 2017. He is married to Katie, a busy clarinettist, with whom he has two young children. He enjoys cooking, playing squash and is owned by Polly, the family cat!
