Ann Lines

Cello

Ann considers herself very lucky to have had wonderful cello teachers right from the start. She began lessons at the age of 9 with Miss Margaret Napier who taught from her home in Footscray, not far away from where Ann now lives. At 16 she started studying privately with Leonard Stehn and continued studying with him as a full timestudent at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama where she completed a 4-year performers’ course. After leaving the Guildhall Ann played principal cello with the “Orchestra Toscanini”, the regional orchestra of Emilia-Romagna. After 3 years she returned to England and has worked as a freelance player and cello teacher since then. She has worked with symphony orchestras such as the BBC Concert Orchestra and Royal Philharmonic, chamber orchestras, touring Opera & Ballet companies, several West End Musicals and has recorded with many popular bands and artists such as Coldplay, Muse and Spandau Ballet. She plays regularly with the orchestra of English National Ballet and is increasingly in demand to play chamber music. She played regularly in a piano trio and is part of a cello duo, cello trio and is currently preparing for a series of concerts in Crete with the Emmanuel String Quartet. Ann actually started teaching whilst still at school and it has always been a rewarding part of her working life.
